We help every ACPS student shine

About Albemarle Foundation for Education (AFE)

At the heart of a strong community is a thriving public school system. As the designated 501(c)(3) for Albemarle County Public Schools, the Albemarle Foundation for Education (AFE) mobilizes community support to meet critical needs, enrich student experiences, and create opportunities that wouldn't otherwise exist.

With public schools facing increasing challenges, AFE is uniquely positioned to provide layered support that improves academic performance, attendance, behavior, and school climate, as well as fund new ideas, accelerate promising initiatives, and scale proven practices.

Our Purpose

AFE was established in 2022 with the mission to generate community commitment to helping each student in Albemarle County Public Schools thrive. Consistent with the ACPS Strategic Plan: Learning for All, the AFE aligns community resources to opportunities that:

Support the ACPS mission to help all students learn and thrive

Impact outcomes identified in the ACPS Strategic Plan

Benefit from resources not typically offered through the school system

Solidify a community commitment to our public schools

Challenges We Address

Close opportunity gaps

We help ensure every student—regardless of background or circumstance—has access to the resources, enrichment, and support they need to thrive.

Enhance student well-being

By investing in mental health, nutrition, and safe learning environments, we foster the conditions for students to feel supported and ready to learn.

Support teacher retention

We strengthen the educator experience through professional development, recognition, and programs that help teachers feel valued and stay in the profession.
